Winter Jewels: Capturing the Enchanting Night Sky Above the Julian Alps
Winter often brings a special kind of magic, and this year, the sky has been a true gift. As the season settles in, the air becomes incredibly transparent, making the stars feel so close you could almost reach out and touch them. On a recent clear night, I was fortunate enough to witness one of the darkest skies I've ever encountered.
The village below was shrouded in a chilly fog, but as I ascended the valley, the mist thinned, revealing an awe-inspiring spectacle. The sight of the Orion constellation, a familiar beacon in the winter sky, offered a sense of calm amidst the cold. It was then that I decided to capture the winter Milky Way stretching its celestial arms above the majestic Mount Montasio, a prominent peak in the Julian Alps.
This shot is a testament to the incredible clarity and depth the winter night sky can offer. The sheer expanse of stars, illuminated by the faint glow of our galaxy, is a humbling reminder of the vastness of the universe.
