A Celestial Spectacle Above the Flames: Wildfires and the Milky Way

Sometimes, the most unexpected and awe-inspiring views come from the most unusual vantage points. Yesterday, while flying over Portugal at a staggering 40,000 feet, an incredible scene unfolded: the fiery glow of wildfires juxtaposed with the serene beauty of the Milky Way stretching across the night sky.

From this altitude, the Earth below was marked by the crimson hues of active wildfires. Yet, as my gaze turned upwards, the darkness of the upper atmosphere revealed a breathtaking celestial display. The Milky Way, our home galaxy, was visible in all its glory, a ribbon of starlight piercing through the blackness. It's a powerful reminder of the dual nature of our planet – the destructive forces that can rage on its surface and the enduring, majestic beauty of the cosmos above.

This particular shot was captured using an iPhone 16 Pro, with post-processing handled directly within the iPhone's native photo application.
