Full Moon Through the Clouds: An Astrophotography Peek
There's a certain magic to seeing the moon through a veil of clouds, isn't there? It softens its typically stark appearance and adds an ethereal quality to its glow.
Last night, on August 9th, 2025, I had the opportunity to try and capture this phenomenon. Using my Apertura AD8 telescope and the camera on my iPhone 14, I aimed to photograph the full moon as it made its appearance through the atmospheric blanket.

The Experience and Seeking Advice
While I'm pleased with the attempt, I feel the image is a little overexposed. The bright disk of the moon seems to have lost some of its surface detail due to the intensity.
This is where I'd love to tap into the collective knowledge of fellow astrophotographers! If you have any tips or tricks for improving lunar photography, especially when dealing with clouds or overexposure, please share them in the comments below. Are there specific settings I should experiment with on my iPhone when using a telescope? Any processing techniques that might help recover detail?
I'm always eager to learn and refine my skills in capturing the wonders of the night sky.
