My New Astrophotography Setup: A Beginner's Journey!
Hello fellow stargazers!
I'm absolutely thrilled to finally share my current astrophotography setup. After dipping my toes in with untracked shots and then graduating to an 8-inch Dobsonian, I've officially been bitten by the astrophotography bug and caved in for a dedicated setup.
Here's a breakdown of what I'm working with:
- Camera: Fujifilm X T20
- Lens: Samyang 135mm f2 (stopped down to f2.8)
- Mount: iOptron SkyGuider Pro
- Tracking Accessories: Declination bracket and counterweight
I'm still very much in the learning phase, but I'm excited about the possibilities this setup offers. I'm planning a few immediate upgrades: a lens collar for improved balance and stability (the Canon to X mount adapter and lens combo feels like it's dragging a bit), a Bahtinov mask for precise focusing, and an intervalometer for controlling exposures.
First Light Plans
While I haven't had a proper imaging night with everything yet, I'm targeting the end of August for a trip to the Razeen Desert in Abu Dhabi (Bortle 3 conditions). The plan is to capture the wonders of Rho Ophiuchi or the Heart and Soul Nebulae. I'm really looking forward to experiencing those darker skies!
This setup might not be the highest-end gear out there, but I'm incredibly happy to have something that will allow me to learn and grow in this fascinating hobby. I'm open to any tips or wisdom you seasoned astrophotographers might have regarding gear, processing, or anything else. Drop your insights in the comments!
Clear skies to all!
