Clouds and the Golden Moon
As the sun dipped below the horizon on July 10th, a magnificent Full Moon graced the southern hemisphere skies. Captured with a telephoto lens in Conceição do Coité, Bahia, Brazil, this breathtaking image showcases the moon's radiant golden light as it paints a dramatic backdrop for drifting clouds.
The astrophotographer, Alexsandro Mota, masterfully combined both short and long exposures to achieve this remarkable shot. This technique allows for incredible detail to be revealed – from the intricate features on the moon's surface bathed in bright moonlight to the subtle, almost iridescent hues along the edges of the backlit cloudscape.
While it's a winter moon in the southern hemisphere, this celestial event is known by a different name in the north: the Thunder Moon. This moniker likely refers to the typically stormy weather experienced during the summer months in the northern hemisphere.
This stunning photograph serves as a beautiful reminder of the captivating celestial events that unfold above us, even for those who might have missed them due to cloudy skies.
