Ancient Petroglyphs Under the Milky Way
Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to travel back to eastern California, spending several nights capturing the ancient rock art found near the majestic Sierras. While piecing together the exact history of these petroglyphs can be a challenge, research suggests that some of the oldest carvings in this region date back as far as 3000 BC. It's truly awe-inspiring to imagine the people who created these marks thousands of years ago, looking up at the very same sky that we do today.
In this particular shot, you can see the breathtaking center of the Milky Way arching gracefully behind these ancient carvings. The faint green luminosity, a subtle touch of atmospheric glow, adds another layer of magic to the scene.
A Connection Across Time
There's a profound connection to be felt when you combine the artistry of our ancestors with the grandeur of the cosmos. These petroglyphs are more than just carvings; they are stories etched in stone, testaments to human presence and perhaps even their understanding of the night sky. To photograph them under the vast expanse of the Milky Way is to bridge millennia, creating a dialogue between the past and the present.
It's a privilege to share these moments of cosmic connection. You can find more of my work exploring the intersection of nature, history, and the universe on my .
