Zabriskie at Night: A Celestial Spectacle
Last week, Zabriskie Point transformed into a canvas for the cosmos, and the resulting image is nothing short of spectacular. This capture showcases the stunning Winter Milky Way arching across the sky, accompanied by familiar celestial neighbors like Orion, the California Nebula, Sirius, and even the glowing presence of Jupiter and Mars.
While the familiar wonders of our galaxy and planetary system were on full display, it was the intensely visible zodiacal light that truly stole the show. This faint, diffuse illumination, caused by sunlight scattering off dust particles in the solar system, was even visible to the naked eye, adding an ethereal layer to the already magnificent scene.
This incredible photograph was made possible by a Sony A7III astromodified camera paired with a Sony 20mm f/1.8 lens. The sky portion is a panorama composed of six images, each exposed for 180 seconds at f/2.2 and ISO 1250. For the foreground, a panorama of six images was taken with a 90-second exposure at f/2.5 and ISO 6400, ensuring both the celestial and terrestrial elements were beautifully rendered.
