Witnessing Totality: A Stunning Lunar Eclipse Captured on 07.09.2025
On the night of July 9th, 2025, the cosmos put on a breathtaking show with a total lunar eclipse. For those with a passion for the night sky, this was an event not to be missed, and for astrophotographers, an opportunity to capture a truly memorable celestial phenomenon.
I was fortunate enough to witness and capture this event, and I'm excited to share the details of how this image came to be.
The Gear Behind the Shot
Capturing the subtle hues and details of a lunar eclipse requires specific equipment and settings. For this particular shot, my setup included:
- Camera: Nikon Z50
- Lens: Shot at 250mm with an aperture of f/6.3
- Mount: Skywatcher EQ3-2 equatorial mount
Capturing the Moment
Timing and exposure are critical when photographing a lunar eclipse, especially during totality when the Moon is bathed in the dim, reddish light filtered through Earth's atmosphere. My settings for this image were:
- Exposure Time: 8 seconds
This exposure allowed enough light to gather detail on the Moon's surface while preventing overexposure of the brighter areas.
Bringing Out the Details: Post-Processing
Once the raw data was captured, the real magic of bringing out the image's full potential began in post-processing. I utilized Photoshop to enhance the colors, contrast, and sharpness, ensuring the subtle reds and oranges of the eclipsed Moon were beautifully represented.

It's always an incredible feeling to contribute to the visual record of these astronomical events, and I hope this image inspires others to look up and appreciate the wonders of our universe.
