Witnessing the September 2025 Lunar Eclipse in Italy
On September 1st, 2025, skywatchers in Italy were treated to a spectacular lunar eclipse. This celestial dance of Earth, Moon, and Sun provided a breathtaking display, and one dedicated astrophotographer managed to capture this stunning moment.
The Art of Lunar Eclipse Photography
Capturing a lunar eclipse requires a combination of patience, precise equipment, and careful post-processing. The photographer utilized a Canon EOS 2000D camera, a workhorse for many budding astrophotographers. The telephoto lens of 500mm f/6.3 brought the Moon into sharp focus, allowing for detailed observation.
For the acquisition, a total of 180 frames at 1/2 second exposure each were taken, totaling 90 seconds of capture time. To gather as much detail as possible in challenging low-light conditions, an ISO of 12800 was employed. This high ISO setting helps to record faint details but also requires skilled post-processing to manage noise.

- Gimp: A versatile image editor, employed for further enhancements, compositing, and fine-tuning the final look.
