Capturing the Cosmos: September 2025 Lunar Eclipse from Italy
The night sky offered a spectacular celestial event recently as a lunar eclipse graced the heavens, and this stunning image, captured from Italy, brings the phenomenon right to our screens.
The Equipment Behind the Shot
This remarkable photograph was taken using a Canon EOS 2000D camera, a popular and capable DSLR for aspiring astrophotographers. The long reach of a 500mm f/6.3 lens was employed to bring the Moon up close.
Acquisition and Processing
The image was acquired with 180 frames, each at 1/2 second exposure, for a total acquisition time of 90 seconds. To capture the detail during the eclipse, an ISO of 12800 was used.
The post-processing pipeline involved a suite of powerful software: RawTherapee for initial RAW development, Siril for stacking and calibration, Gimp for further enhancements, and Snapseed for final touch-ups on a mobile device.
