To Tofino and Beyond!
Recently, I had the immense pleasure of escaping the city and venturing to the Bortle 2 dark skies of British Columbia, Canada. For a weekend, myself and some friends immersed ourselves in the tranquility of nature, enjoying campfires and, of course, the spectacular night sky. It was a much-needed reprieve from urban life.
A Celestial Spectacle
Under skies so clear they felt painted, we were treated to an unforgettable stargazing experience. The sheer number of stars visible was breathtaking, a stark contrast to the light-polluted skies we're accustomed to. It's moments like these that truly remind you of the vastness of the universe.
The Enchantment of Bioluminescent Waves
Adding another layer of magic to the weekend, we were fortunate enough to witness the mesmerizing phenomenon of bioluminescent waves. The ocean glowed with an otherworldly light, a truly surreal and captivating sight that complemented the celestial wonders above.
Capturing the Night
To capture the beauty of this weekend, I utilized the following settings:
- Sky: 10 exposures at 60 seconds each, ISO 1600, f2.2
- Foreground: 1 exposure at 60 seconds, f3.2, ISO 1600
The images were meticulously stacked in PixInsight and then further refined and blended in Photoshop to bring out the stunning detail and atmosphere.
