Saturn in Infrared: A Glimpse Through the Veil

Even with a few pesky clouds rolling in, the seeing conditions presented a perfect opportunity to try something new: infrared imaging of the magnificent ringed planet, Saturn. The results are simply breathtaking!

Saturn in Infrared

This image was captured using a combination of excellent equipment:

  • Telescope: Celestron Nexstar 5i
  • Camera: Allied Vision Manta G-319C
  • Mount: Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTi
  • Filter: SVBONY 685nm IR Bandpass
  • Barlow: Orion 2x shorty Barlow

From a total of 2500 captured images, the best 25% were stacked to produce this final, detailed view. Infrared imaging allows us to see Saturn in a different light, often revealing atmospheric features and cloud bands with enhanced contrast. It's a fascinating way to explore our solar system's celestial jewels.
