Ring of Fire, New Zealand

This image captures a truly spectacular celestial event over the dramatic landscapes of New Zealand. The "Ring of Fire" phenomenon, named for its fiery hues, was amplified by an exceptionally intense orange airglow, creating well-defined bands that illuminated the entire night sky.

This is the third iteration of this photograph, originally captured in August 2023. The sheer brilliance of the airglow on that particular night was unlike anything the astrophotographer had ever witnessed.

Technical Details:

The panorama was captured using the following settings:

  • Focal Length: 28mm
  • Exposure: 30 seconds
  • Aperture: f/2
  • ISO: 6400

New Zealand, with its geologically active terrain and volcanic presence, truly provided a fitting backdrop for this awe-inspiring display. It's a reminder of the powerful forces at play both above and below our planet's surface.
