Out at the Dunes, Under the Stars
This past April, I had the opportunity to visit the incredible Cadiz Dunes with a friend, and the experience was truly breathtaking. After exploring the area, I spotted a dune peak that, with a longer focal length like the 50mm I chose for this shot, offered a stunning perspective.
Capturing the Light
The real magic happened as we worked to illuminate the dune's shapes, using small lights to accentuate its contours. The result is a scene that perfectly blends the earthly beauty of the dunes with the celestial wonder of the night sky.
Technical Details
For those interested in the technical side of capturing this image:
- Camera: Full spectrum modified Canon R5
- Lens: Canon 24-70 f/2.8 at 50mm
Foreground:
- Multiple 60 and 30-second exposures.
- f/8, ISO 800.
- Captured ambient light and painted light using a visible light filter.
A visible light filter essentially sets a full spectrum modified camera back to being stock. So with a visible light filter the camera sees what a normal camera does.
Sky:
- 20 frames.
- f/2.8, ISO 1600, 210 seconds.
- Used multiple specialized astronomy filters, including narrowband filters to achieve the "green" in the lagoon.
It was an amazing experience, and I'm thrilled to share the final result with you all. Planning a trip for the new moon darkness? You might just see me out there again!
