My First Milky Way Astrophotography Attempt: Balcony Views and Lightroom Magic
Hey fellow stargazers and photography enthusiasts!
I recently embarked on my very first astrophotography adventure, and I'm excited to share the results – and the learning process – with you all. The best part? I managed to capture the majestic Milky Way right from my own balcony!
It's amazing what you can achieve with a bit of determination and the right gear, even without venturing into the darkest skies.
The Gear and Settings
For this maiden voyage into the cosmos, I used:
- Camera: Sony Alpha 7 IV
- Lens: 24-70GM
- Focal Length: 24mm
- ISO: 5000
- Shutter Speed: 30 seconds
These settings were crucial in gathering enough light to capture the faint glow of our galaxy.
The Challenge of Post-Processing
I'll be honest, the initial shot was quite pale – almost a light grey. Capturing the subtle details of the Milky Way requires careful calibration of the camera's sensor to light. Thankfully, with a bit of tweaking in Adobe Lightroom, I was able to bring out the beautiful structure and colors hidden within the raw data. It's a testament to how powerful post-processing can be in astrophotography.

Seeking Your Expertise!
As a beginner, I'm still very much on a learning curve. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the image. Any tips for improving my technique, suggestions for different settings to try, or advice on processing would be incredibly valuable. What should I try differently next time to push my astrophotography skills further?
Looking forward to hearing from you all and continuing this cosmic journey!
