My First Astrophotography Attempt: Capturing the Cosmos from Mt Gravatt, Brisbane
It's a thrilling moment when you take your very first steps into the world of astrophotography. For me, that moment arrived on July 12th, 2025, with my debut shot taken from the scenic vantage point of Mt Gravatt in Brisbane, Australia. I'm absolutely delighted with how this first attempt turned out!
The Gear and Settings
I wanted to share the technical details of this capture, as it's a crucial part of the astrophotography process. Here's what I used and the settings I employed:
- Camera: Canon M50
- Lens: Tamron 70-300mm
- Aperture: f/8.0
- ISO: 100
- Shutter Speed: 1/250 sec
The Processing Journey
Once I had the image, the next step was to bring out the details of the night sky. I utilized Adobe Lightroom Mobile for editing, a powerful tool that allowed me to refine the colors and contrast to achieve the look I was hoping for. It's incredible how much can be done with a little post-processing to reveal the hidden beauty of the cosmos.
This is just the beginning of my astrophotography journey, and I'm eager to continue learning, experimenting, and sharing more of my discoveries. Seeing the night sky come alive through my lens is an incredibly rewarding experience, and I'm so happy to share this milestone with you all!
