Moon Tonight: A Glorious 64% Waxing Gibbous

Our celestial neighbor, the Moon, graced the night sky with its presence tonight, and what a sight it was! This image captures the Moon in its 64% waxing gibbous phase, a beautiful period where more than half of its illuminated surface is visible, and it's growing towards fullness.

Capturing the Cosmos

This stunning lunar portrait was made possible with a keen eye and some readily available technology. The image was taken using a Celestron Powerseeker 60AZ telescope paired with an iPhone 15. This combination proves that you don't need ultra-expensive equipment to capture breathtaking views of space.

A Touch of Polish

Following the capture, the image was further enhanced using Adobe Lightroom. This post-processing step helps to bring out the fine details and textures of the lunar surface, making the craters and maria even more pronounced. The result is a crisp and detailed view of our closest celestial companion.

It's truly inspiring to see the Moon in such detail, and the comments from fellow sky-gazers reflect the universal appreciation for our lunar companion. As one commenter simply put it, "I love our moon. She’s the best 😍". We couldn't agree more!

Keep looking up!
