Milky Way Over Mt. San Jacinto: A Stargazing Gem
Sometimes, the most incredible discoveries happen unexpectedly. During a recent camping trip to Idyllwild, nestled at the base of the stunning Mt. San Jacinto, a short hike from the Stone Creek campground revealed a view that took my breath away – the glorious sweep of the Milky Way painted across the night sky.
Capturing the Cosmic Dance
This awe-inspiring capture was made possible with a Sony a7iii camera and a Sony 16-35mm f4 lens. The settings used were ISO 3200, aperture at f4, and a total of 8 exposures, each at 25 seconds. This technique, stacking multiple long exposures, helps to gather more light and bring out the fainter details of our galactic core.
Being a first-time hiker and camper in this serene location added an extra layer of magic to the experience. The crisp mountain air and the complete absence of light pollution provided the perfect canvas for the cosmos to perform.
Seeing the Milky Way in such clarity and grandeur is a profound reminder of our place in the universe. It’s moments like these that fuel the passion for astrophotography and exploring the natural wonders around us.
