Milky Way Over Kos: A Stunning Astrophotography Capture
This week, we're treated to a truly spectacular view of our galaxy, the Milky Way, captured from the serene island of Kos, Greece. Unlike my usual focus on Deep Sky Objects (DSOs), this image brings the grandeur of the night sky right to our doorstep, and I'm eager for any feedback you might have!
The Capture
This celestial masterpiece was shot at 3 AM on October 6th, 2025, from a secluded, dark site on Kos, boasting a Bortle 2/3 rating – ideal conditions for capturing the faintest details of the night sky.
Equipment Used:
- Camera: Astromodified Canon 6D
- Lens: Sigma 24mm f/1.4
Technical Details
The foreground was beautifully rendered using a 2-panel mosaic, subtly illuminated by the gentle glow of the setting moon. The sky itself is a composite of 17 individual exposures, each lasting 15 seconds, shot at an aperture of f/2 and an ISO of 2500. This meticulous approach allowed for the rich detail and vibrant colors of the Milky Way to be brought to life.
A Glimpse of Paradise
This image is a testament to the incredible beauty that can be found when we venture away from light pollution and look up. The combination of the pristine dark skies of Kos and skilled astrophotography results in a view that is both awe-inspiring and deeply humbling.
The photographer welcomes any feedback on this piece.
