Have you ever wondered why this particular meteor shower is named the Perseids? The answer lies in the direction from which these meteors appear to originate. They are named after the constellation Perseus, as they seem to radiate from a point within it. This apparent origin is due to Earth's passage through the debris trail left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle. As Earth crosses the comet's orbit, the tiny, sand-sized particles left by the comet enter our atmosphere at high speeds, creating the brilliant streaks of light we call meteors.

This year's Perseids, usually one of the most anticipated meteor showers of the year, faced a bit of competition. A bright moon rose shortly after sunset in many locations, which can wash out fainter meteors. Despite this challenge, dedicated astrophotographers managed to capture incredible moments.
