Lunar Eclipse Over Mākara Beach, New Zealand
This incredible shot captures a total lunar eclipse as seen from the picturesque Mākara Beach in New Zealand. Taken in 2021, this image is not just a stunning piece of astrophotography but also holds a deeply personal significance for the photographer.
A Special Place, A Special Moment
This location was a cherished spot, a consistent go-to for astronomical pursuits. Even more remarkably, it was the very place where the photographer proposed to their girlfriend! It's moments like these that imbue a photograph with an extra layer of emotion and storytelling.
Capturing the Cosmos
The photographer utilized a Sony a6400 with a Sigma 24mm f2 lens to capture this breathtaking scene. The intricate details of the eclipse and the surrounding stars were brought to life through a careful combination of exposures:
- Moon: 1/3 second exposure
- Stars: 10 x 60 second exposures
- Foreground: 1 x 60 second exposure
These individual exposures were then masterfully blended in Photoshop to create the final, awe-inspiring image.
