Cygnus Burning Over the Forest: A Stunning Astrophotography Capture

Last night presented a challenge for any sky-gazer. Despite a promising forecast, a persistent veil of clouds threatened to obscure the celestial wonders. However, as often happens in the world of astrophotography, a brief clearing offered a window of opportunity.

Cygnus burning over the forest

Venturing to the Kahleberg in eastern Germany with a friend, we were met with a sky that was less than ideal. Yet, in a stroke of luck, the Cygnus region decided to offer its splendor. This fleeting moment allowed for the creation of what has become a truly special shot, especially with the dramatic silhouette of the forest providing a grounding element to the cosmic display.

This image is a testament to the dedication and patience required in astrophotography. It's a HaRGB composite, meticulously stacked, tracked, and blended to bring out the intricate details of the Cygnus constellation. Even though it was the only shot possible from last night's session, the result is deeply satisfying.

Technical Details:

  • Camera: Sony A7III
  • Lens (Sky): Sony G 20mm f1.8
  • Sky Exposure: ISO 1000 | f1.8 | 15x45s

  • Halpha (Sigma 65 f2): ISO 2500 | f2 | 6x70s (captured on a different night)
