Today, we're diving deep into an incredible capture of the majestic Carina Nebula, taken over a dedicated 9-hour session. This ambitious capture utilized a 200mm f/2.8 lens, a versatile choice for wide-field deep-sky objects like the Carina Nebula. The session involved stacking 546 individual exposures, each 60 seconds long, for a total of approximately 9 hours and 30 minutes. Even with an 80-100% illuminated moon present, a significant challenge for many deep-sky photographers, this image was made possible.
The gear used included an un-modified Canon 650D and an HEQ5 Pro mount, operating unguided. This setup, while not the most advanced, demonstrates that incredible results are achievable with dedicated effort and skill.
Surprising Similarities and Processing Wins
