Capturing the Night Sky: Photos from a Rainier Trip
Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to venture out to Mount Rainier for a night of stargazing and photography. Even from the accessible Paradise parking lot, the dark skies offered a spectacular canvas for the cosmos.
The Gear and the Settings
To capture these celestial wonders, I used my trusty Nikon D850 paired with a Rokinon 24mm lens. For these shots, the settings were crucial: an aperture of f/2.2, an ISO of 2500, and a shutter speed of 20 seconds allowed the sensor to gather enough light from the faint stars.
A Glimpse of the Universe
The result was nothing short of stunning. The Milky Way, faint yet unmistakable, arced across the sky, with the silhouette of Mount Rainier providing a dramatic foreground. It's moments like these, surrounded by the quiet grandeur of nature and the immense beauty of the universe, that are truly special.
Many ask about the experience of being out in such remote locations. For me, it's incredibly peaceful and a profound reminder of our place in the universe. The solitude amplifies the connection with the natural world and the cosmos above.
