Capturing the Ethereal Glow: The Western Veil Nebula (NGC 6992)
Behold the magnificent Western Veil Nebula, also known as NGC 6992! This celestial spectacle, a remnant of a supernova explosion, presents a stunning tapestry of ionized gases, painting the cosmos with vibrant hues.
The Capture
This incredible image was brought to life using an unmodified Canon Rebel T7 DSLR camera. The astrophotographer braved Bortle scale 7-8 skies, demonstrating that even under challenging light pollution conditions, stunning results are achievable.
Technical Details
- Equipment: Unmodified Canon Rebel T7 DSLR
- Acquisition Time: 4 hours and 55 minutes
- Processing Software: Siril and GIMP
Achieving such clarity and detail requires patience and meticulous processing. The significant integration time of nearly 5 hours allowed for the subtle details and faint structures within the nebula to be captured. Following acquisition, the data was expertly processed using Siril for initial calibration and stacking, and then GIMP for final touches and enhancement.
