Capturing the Cosmic Dance: A Milky Way Timelapse from Tenerife
Get ready to be mesmerized! We're thrilled to share a spectacular timelapse showcasing the Milky Way in all its glory, captured from the unique vantage point of Tenerife. This incredible shot is a testament to the dedication and artistry involved in astrophotography.
The Vision and the Shot
The photographer utilized a Canon R5 with a 20mm RF15-35 lens to capture 604 individual images. Each exposure lasted 10 seconds, set at an aperture of f/2.8 and an ISO of 5000. A Tiffen Fog 2 Filter was employed to enhance the atmospheric effects, with quick edits performed in Lightroom Classic to bring out the full detail of our galaxy.
Unforeseen Co-stars
As with many real-world creative endeavors, the unexpected often adds character. In this case, a delightful duo of oblivious individuals managed to wander into the frame not once, but twice! While it presents a unique editing challenge, it also adds a touch of human connection to the vastness of space.
The photographer is open to workflow suggestions on how best to handle these light intrusions. With a sequence of 6 consecutive frames that are crucial to the timelapse's flow, simply removing them would create an undesirable abruptness. This highlights the often-complex decisions photographers face when balancing technical perfection with narrative integrity.
The Magic of Motion
Timelapses like this offer a unique perspective on the movement of the stars and the apparent rotation of our planet. Watching the Milky Way arc across the sky is a profound experience, connecting us to the immense scale and grandeur of the cosmos. The clarity of the stars and the defined band of our galaxy are simply stunning.
