Capturing the Blood Moon of 2025 from the UAE
Living in the UAE, I had the incredible opportunity to capture the recent Blood Moon event, and I'm thrilled to share my results with you!
This image is a testament to the power of combining dedicated equipment and meticulous processing. I used my Fujifilm XT20 camera paired with a Skywatcher 200P Dobsonian telescope to achieve this shot.
Acquisition and Processing Details:
This was a stacked image, and while I didn't count precisely, I aimed for as many exposures as possible, ranging from 0.5 to 1-second durations. The processing journey involved several key steps:
- Stacking: Performed using Siril to combine multiple frames and enhance detail.
- Histogram Stretch: Applied to bring out the subtle nuances in the lunar surface and color.
- Noise Reduction: Utilized to clean up any unwanted digital noise.
- Color Correction: Fine-tuned in Lightroom to achieve the best possible representation of the Blood Moon's hues.
- Sharpening: Employed Wavesharp wavelets to significantly increase the sharpness and bring out finer details.
It's worth noting that the primary moon image was captured separately from the background, which was a short exposure taken later to provide context.
I hope you enjoy this capture as much as I enjoyed creating it. Clear skies to all!
