Blood Moon Magic: My Next Steps in Astrophotography
What a night! I was absolutely thrilled to capture this stunning Blood Moon on September 7th, 2025. The sky put on an incredible show, and I'm so glad I was able to document it.
This shot was made possible with my trusty Sony A7CII and the incredible 70-200 GM II lens. The detail and clarity are something I'm really proud of. The processing was kept simple, with just some subtle tweaks in Lightroom to bring out the best in the image.
The Astrophotography Journey Continues
As any enthusiast knows, capturing the cosmos is a continuous learning process, and gear is a big part of that. After this experience, I'm left wondering: what's my next step to level up my astrophotography game?
I've been contemplating two main paths:
- Upgrading the Telephoto: Should I invest in a lens like the 200-600mm GM? The increased reach could be a game-changer for capturing more distant celestial objects or getting even tighter shots of lunar features.
- Diving into Telescopes: Alternatively, is a dedicated telescope the way to go? I'm particularly interested in lunar telescopes – what are some of your top recommendations for capturing incredible detail on the Moon?
I'm eager to hear from the community! What are your thoughts? Have any of you made similar transitions in your astrophotography journey? Share your experiences and advice in the comments below!
