Afocal Orion Nebula Captured with iPhone 15 Pro
It was a good night somehow! This is my first time ever seeing the Orion Nebula, and what an incredible experience it was. Even though it was a tiny bit out of focus, I'm thrilled with this capture and eager to improve for next time.
This image was taken using an iPhone 15 Pro in an afocal setup. The astronomical equipment involved included a 25mm eyepiece attached to a 12-inch Meade SCT LX90 telescope.
This experiment shows the potential of modern smartphone cameras when paired with capable optical instruments. While there's always room for refinement, especially in achieving perfect focus, the raw beauty of celestial objects like the Orion Nebula can be captured with surprisingly accessible equipment. It's a testament to how far imaging technology has come, allowing more people to engage with the wonders of the night sky.
I'm looking forward to honing my technique and sharing more of my astrophotography adventures as I continue to learn and explore the cosmos from my backyard.
